Which Fit & Polished™ formula do I want to feed my horse?
If you feed more than 8 lbs. of alfalfa per day, feed MVA. If you feed less than 8 lbs. of alfalfa per day, feed MVG.
I feed alfalfa and grass mix, which formula do I need?
If your hay is more than ½ alfalfa, feed MVA. If it is more than ½ grass, feed MVG.
I don’t ride very much so how much should I feed my horse?
If you are just starting on Sierra Gold® then feed the full amount for 30 days. Be sure to split the amount fed equally between feedings. After the 30 days is up you can start to cut back by ½ oz. per day and feed that amount for a couple of weeks to see how your horse does. Horses on a maintenance diet may do very well on just 2 oz. per day once their system is built back up.
My vet said that the blood test shows my horse is low in “X”, why don’t you make individual elements available?
The horse needs all of the nutritional building blocks to thrive. The danger of throwing the overall nutritional balance of the horse off is far greater with individual supplements than it is when using a well formulated complete supplement that is designed to complement the type of forage that the horse receives.
Note: In order to determine the mineral status of a horse from blood testing the following criteria must be met:
1. The blood must be pulled at the same time each morning before the horse is fed.
2. At least two or three samples must be tested over a period of seven or eight days to establish base levels.
3. Since homeostasis dictates that blood levels will be maintained at the expense of organ reserves, by the time the blood reads low in a particular mineral the horse is in more trouble than feeding one element can remedy.
Can I mix different Sierra Gold® products if I think that my horse needs a little more of something?
Yes, all of the Sierra Gold® products are designed to work together. You are encouraged to call the office at 800-580-6632 to ask about the best combination for your horse’s situation. This way we can help you choose the correct product for the job and in many cases save you money.
My friend told me that she feeds Creamine™ with Fit & Polished™ when she races. Does that work and how much should I feed?
Fit & Polished™ contains all of the elements equal to one ounce of Creamine™ in each four ounce feeding, however, many horses in strenuous competition benefit from a “boost” of Creamine™. In most cases one ounce of Creamine™ daily for two days before an event, the day of the event and the day after seem to give horses that extra “edge” when competing and helps them to recover faster afterward. Many riders will “paste” their horse 30 minutes before they race by mixing one ounce of Creamine™ with syrup, apple sauce or yogurt.
I was told that yucca will “test” as a steroid, is there anything in Sierra Gold™ that will show up in a urine test?
No. Nothing in any of our formulas will show up in a urine test. Horses fed Sierra Gold® win their share of events and have been randomly tested at horse shows for over ten years and there has never been a suspect test result. Claims that yucca will test are false. Yucca is not an anabolic steroid which is what urine tests are for. The only way to know that your horse consumes yucca is to read it on the supplement container that you are feeding out of.
